Smash that button on the back of the pcb  Big Grin
It is a hard reset.
Probably your kernel is corrupted. (Fix it with a new image)

Isnt the proper way to shut down the system the button? Big Grin

Yes, that is why I suggested you may have a corrupted kernel.
What good is a button when the instructions that make it work are not working properly?

Another option would be to have a very large library of ROMs and you have scrapped them. That would make the reboot/shutdown process extremely long. Even a 10 minute shutdown is normal, in this scenario as it rewrites everything that has been scrapped before quitting.

Edit: I am completely disregarding the button itself hardware failing. Easy to test with a multimeter with a continuity setting.

Is everything else working 100% properly? You just can not turn off the system?

From the RetroPie menu, if you hit START, can you choose QUIT and then shut the system down? Then does it turn itself off completely?

I am assuming that the system boots up properly when you hold the power button on until the green LED lights up. Is that correct?

Does your power button spring back like a DS, or does it click into place like a GBA? It should slide when pushed and then spring back when released.

So far yes.

Yes, there is no problem with that method.

It needs a few seconds, but I can boot up without any problems.

It springs back like a DS.

Do you mean that sometimes the power switch will properly shut down the system? If so, then maybe it seems like something is killing the shutdown script.

The other (odd) thought it that MAYBE the slider isn't sliding far enough. I do know that some people have said that they have to shave off a bit of plastic to allow the slider to travel all the way over to register. Do you have to push it a little hard to get it to turn on the machine?
