Joysticks psp-1000 needs additional board ? - Blind41 - 07-12-2020

Hi !

I'm new to this forum and I'm currently trying to understand what we need in order to get two psp Joysticks.

I was looking at the Boxy Pixel case and it seems a new version came out with two holes for the Joysticks but I can't find if I need a add-on board to get the joysticks working or if I can solder the psp joysticks directly on the Freeplay CM3 motherboard ? Does anyone know if I need an add-on board ?

If no, where should we solder the wires on the motherboard ?

I searched on the guides , on the forum and on Youtube but I didn't found the informations I'm looking for.

there are separate little microcontroller chips on the addon board. in reading it looks like you would need the "4adc" one.

You were right ! We have to use the : Freeplay CM3 L2R2 Boxy Pixel Dual Analog (4 ADC) Add-On Board

I ordered my Boxy Pixel case and my Freeplay CM3 KIT + this addon board ! I hope I'll succeed to put everything together x)

I have unfortunately made a mistake with the order and ordered the following with it.
Are there any problems with this or can I still use this to install both PSP sticks?

Is there an overview how to solder this?
Freeplay CM3 L2R2 Dual Analog (4 ADC) Add-On Board
The two L/R buttons of the board I will unsolder from the board, otherwise it will hit the back wall. But I can also leave that if I know that I cannot use the board.

We are working to make this process a bit more obvious. Boxy Pixel surprised us by releasing this new shell, and we are trying to get better information for customers.

We already did have this "Freeplay CM3 L2/R2 ADC Add-On Install Guide" documentation at https://www.freeplaytech.com/support/setup/

I would suggest starting there.

thanks for that. I finally soldered the board yesterday. Looks good so far.
Now I have to set up the software.

Re-ordering is a problem at the moment because I live in Germany and customs likes to check the package for more than a week. I am impatient Big Grin

30 AWG is probably good, but anything around there is likely fine (26 or 28 AWG would probably be fine).

You will also need to choose solid or stranded wire. For routing the wires, solid is easier, because it pretty much stays wherever you put it. For soldering, some people prefer the stranded wire as it soaks up the solder into the strands.
