Recent Progress (or Lack Thereof)
#1
I felt pretty discouraged last night. When I make the Flashmasta carts, usually how it goes is that I do a batch of quick soldering. Then I go back and meticulously hand-solder each cart. This isn't the only thing I do to build the carts, but it's the main time-taker.

The quick soldering is mainly to get all the components tacked down in their respective places. The vast majority of boards will have excess solder or not enough solder in some places. To fix this, I use a 30x magnifying glass and a soldering iron either spreading solder or wicking the excess.

Last night, I started with about 7 or 8 PCBs that had already gone through the quick soldering. I found PCB fabrication errors on 3 of the boards. That's a very bad percentage, and the worse part is that these errors are very difficult and time-consuming to track down. This was annoying and disappointing, as most boards with PCB fab errors need to be trashed. There was one that just had a small fixable problem.

At the end of the night, I had 3 working cartridge PCBs. It was disheartening. It's usually not that bad. Usually, I might guess that maybe 1 or 2 in such a group would be unrepairable. This is an indicator that I probably need to pay more to get some upgrades on the PCB fabrication process. It's probably better to spend a bit more money to eliminate nights like this.

As far as upcoming inventory, things are looking approximately like this.

I have 6 Linkmasta PCBs that are either ready or just need a little soldering work. There are 2 more that are waiting for some parts to arrive. I think that means I will have 8 ready soon, but I will only count on 6.

I have 3 Flashmasta PCBs that are ready to be bundled with those Linkmastas. I think I'll have to trash 4 of the ones I mentioned having problems with, but I should have enough parts to build 5 more.

I think (if everything goes well) that puts me at another 8 bundles in the fairly near future.

Do you think I should list them as they're ready? If so, I would have 3 very soon. Is it better to wait until all 8 (maybe 6) are ready? What else can you say to cheer me up this morning? Tongue

I believe that you can make a preorder for everyone who wants one could pay and then get it when becomes ready.

I want one, and I would have no problem to use these kind of system.
