  Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure
Posted by: MartiusR - 09-01-2015, 07:00 AM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

It's photo of mine StH Pocket Adventure, yay!

I didn't noticed thread about this game, so it's time to create one, especially since it's one of the finest of all NGPC games Smile

Looking on this one from perspective of someone who is fan of Sonic series- it's a really odd and rare specimen. Published in 1999 on handheld of totally different producer (SNK), maybe it's not something completely new (there was Sonic Jam on Game.com, but please, let's skip this one Tongue), but still, it's before Sega went into developing games for other platforms, due to their resignation from "hardware".

And despite it's looking like some "rip-off" from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 + music from StH3/S&K, it still has its own identity. And it's really enjoyable! The physics is working quite well (it's quite impressive, since it's handheld from 1999), level design is satisfactory, music is quite nice... It's a real shame though, that there is only one playable character. And not too many levels. Yeah, there is this time attack mode (in two variations), and puzzles to collect, but still, you feel that it's a really nice game and want more of it...

It's a minor thing, but for someone who is fascinated in Sonic, it's still a nice trivia - while the overall graphic style is refering to MD titles with Sonic, the graphic in menu (especially in additional modes) presenting the "new" Sonic, from graphic materials for Sonic Adventure (you know, the one with longer legs and arms, less chubby etc).

Its definitelly one of these titles on NGPC, which really deserves for all these positive notes and opinions. And despite controller of NGPC (which is not too good option for classic 2D platformers), I think that it's up to this day the one of the most interesting "mobile" Sonic games from the end of XXth century.

Since it's my first post - hello everyone!

  Link Cable Port Information

Does anyone know of any technical docs for the link cable port on the NGPC? Perhaps a pinout diagram or a description of the protocol. I haven't been able to find anything on it.

Card Fighters & Faselei! on CelJaded's Top 100 Best Video Games List
Posted by: CelJaded - 06-04-2015, 12:54 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Greetings, all.

I've been playing Neo Geo Pocket games for a solid ten years or so now and since then I've made my own blog where I've today finished listing my personal top 100 best video games.

Faselei! is featured at #86 and SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters Clash made it to #4!

I know there may not be a whole lot you don't already know here, but I just thought that many of you might appreciate a read of these little retrospectives as they have a few personal thoughts on what makes these games so unique and timeless.

If you'd like to check out the articles then you can find them here:

Faselei! - http://www.celjaded.com/celjaded-top-100...mes-90-81/

Card Fighters - http://www.celjaded.com/celjaded-top-100...o-games-4/

Thank you all for keeping the spirit of this great console alive for so many years and helping these two games make my top 10!

Hope you enjoy the read.

I hope Ed doesn't mind. I just finished uploading my Neo Geo Planet page at neogeoplanet.com. The site is coming along nicely. I'm currently uploading all my scans and creating/building each game profile for the NGP and NGPC. let me know what you think. Sign up for the forum as well, please.

I've also added a Flashmasta link on my main page, so hopefully you get more business.

  Grinding in Biomotor Unitron
Posted by: Louie - 05-08-2014, 11:00 PM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Biomotor Unitron was the first game that I got for my Neo Poke. I jumped right into it, and I think its great. However, there is one aspect of the game that drives me a little nuts.

My character is getting pretty powerful now. I can clear the sixth level on any dungeon and I will soon be ready to tackle the dungeon bosses. However, it is a pain having to go through all six levels of the dungeon just to get down to the lowest level again. The levels themselves are not huge, but having to fight all of those random encounters in which the enemy does 1 point of damage and yields only 1 experience point feels like a big waste of time. I wish the game had been designed such that enemies that are much weaker than you will not bother to attack.

  Fatal Fury F Contact
Posted by: Louie - 05-08-2014, 10:50 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

I think that Fatal Fury F Contact tends to get an undeserved bum rap from people who review Neo Poke games.

On the one hand, I agree that of the six color fighting games that SNK released it is the weakest due to the lack of extra play modes and unlockables. It is a straight up the middle one-on-one fighting game. There is no way to mix things up, and no extra characters to earn.

However, it is still a solid little fighting game. All of the color fighting games are good. SNK ironed out the kinks in their control scheme with the two black and white games. After that, the color games all played like a dream.

Thus, it seems unfair to me that many reviewers will give MoTM, Last Blade and Gals Fighers an A+, and then give Fatal Fury a C. I would say that it deserves a B- at worst.

In any case, that is my opinion.

Rainbow Spambot attack
Posted by: Morden - 05-05-2014, 04:51 AM - Forum: General - Replies (6)

Ok, so each time I visit, there are new spam messages, and every day, there are at least five users celebrating their birthdays. There are over 250 pages of registered users, but only about 60 people who have ever posted. This includes users who have only posted once.

I haven't checked the list before, so I'm not sure if new users keep registering, or if the current state of affairs if the aftermath of the spambot attack from last year.

Either way, some cleaning is in order. Personally, I would do away with all of the users without any postings, then I would take a look at those who are left [one time posters, mainly].

If those bots keep on registering, I would also take a look at the registration procedure, captcha, question - answer check, etc. and maybe see if MyBB offers a more bot proof registration alternative.

Current number of users is insane, and if this is left unattended, eventually it will become one hell of a mess to clean up. I've seen dozens of forums that got so spammed, you couldn't reach any of the original info and posts, even if you tried. Digging through thousands of pages of spam wasn't worth anyone's time.

So, bots-be-gone!
