My new addiction (NGPC) |

This story starts back in 1999. I was attending a conference in Salt Lake City and during a break in the schedule I wandered across the street from the conference centre to a game store. I was thinking about picking up a Gameboy to keep me occupied on the five hour flight home. As I was browsing the games I noticed that there was another handheld system on the shelf. It was the Neo Geo Pocket Color. At that time I had never heard of SNK or Neo Geo but it looked cool. I left the store without buying anything. I figured that my new fiancé would be miffed if I came home with yet another device that played games. We were supposed to be saving up for our wedding.
In the time between then and now I learned about SNK, and Neo Geo, but I somehow forgot about the NGPC.
A year ago I decided to become a retro gamer. I was fed up with the direction that modern games are going in and wanted to experience some old school goodness again. I subscribed to Retro Gamer magazine. In one issue I came across a reference to the Neo Geo Pocket Color and I said "Oh yeah, I forgot about that." I looked it up online and saw that it had a small but awesome collection of games. It sounded about right for what I was looking for. I did not want to collect hundreds of games. I just wanted some old school goodness on the go.
I spent a couple of months watching EBay too see what the going rates were for systems and games. Then two weeks ago I decided to jump in. I probably went a little overboard.
I now have two hardware units and have purchased all of the following games:
Fatal Fury F Contact
King of Fighters R2
Samurai Showdown 2
Match of the Millennium
Card Fighters SNK
Card Fighters Capcom
Metal Slug 1st Mission
Metal Slug 2nd Mission
Dive Alert : Matts Version
Dark Arms
Bio Motor Unitron
Bust'A'Move Mini
Picture Puzzle
Puzzle Link 2
Pacman
Sonic Pocket Adventures
Neo Turf Masters
Pocket Tennis Color
Dynamite Slugger
Neo Geo Cup 98 Plus
Most of these are cart only (cheap).
I am running out of games that I can afford to buy though. I saw a copy of Faselei (English) for $150 in a local store. My jaw dropped. Who pays that? I will have to start trolling for dealings now and hope that I can find the remaining games on my hit list at descent prices eventually. They are:
Faselei
Last Blade
Gals Fighter
Magical Drop Pocket
I also intend to get a Flash Masta to play homebrew and translated games.
In any case, NGPC is my new favourite toy.

I Name is Icer/Eric I just wanted to introduce myself. I have a Neo Geo Pocket Color Collection, that I started back in 05 or 06, then I put my collection on hiatus in 08 due to college and then starting my career 2 years ago. The Last item I was able to acquire was the Pocket linker.
Let's see, a few things about me, I love Technology, Computers, Phones, Linux, Cars, etc
How did I get here?
I was googling around and came across this thread when I looked up Pocket Linker to get the software again though I wont be able to get it up and running on my 64bit System lol. Thus I am Now here and am looking forward to buying a LinkMasta in the coming Months.
Heres a Picture of my Collection thus far, Soon to add a few items Hopefully.

NGPC display replacement |

One thing that has always bugged me about the NGPC is the god-awful LCD. It's very dim and highly reflective.
Does anyone have more details about the display (interface, dimensions, operating voltage, etc)? Are there any mass-manufactored display modules that would be a good fit as a replacement? It would be really neat if the original display could be replaced with a backlit, high-contrast TFT display (preferably with some anti-glare coating), similar to how some people have modded their GameGears.

Hey guys I just won a NGPC off ebay. Brand new in box with manual... box... WHITE box... according to the description on ebay its different than normal,
"This is so cool, especially for Neo Geo collectors. This is a special version of the Neo Geo Color system.
See, when Playmore took over SNK and killed off their console aspirations, they was still left with some Neo Geo Color stock.
So they repackaged the systems into these white boxes and sprinkled them throughout Japan into crane games (the Japanese call them UFO machines) to be eventually won.
That was the ONLY way you could get this version of the machine in the white box... to fly to Japan, find a crane game that had one in it, and then win it.
The Neo Pocket itself is in new condition. No scratches, no marks (of the wolves... that's an SNK joke), just beautiful like if you were to go back in time and buy one new. Comes complete with instructions and even the little plastic baggy to go around the unit, and the cardboard that sits on top of the unit protecting the thumb stick clicky controller. Mint, complete.
This is from my personal, private collection."
seems cool!
