EMS 64m Smart Card - wyndcrosser - 07-11-2013 EMS 64m Smart Card Details: The smart card is mini USB based with the following features: - Support for gb/cgb/gba/gbp - Supports gb/cgb roms (including lsdj) - Multiple game roms on the same cartridge are allowed - Connects to pc via mini-b type usb cable - Software supported on windows xp, vista, and 7 (OS X, linux, and BSD support in alpha development) - Easily replaceable battery (for sram). no soldering is required Note: Game .sav files are stored in sram. Only one *.sav can be stored at the same time. Support: Motzilla, developed a Windows 7 friendly setup with common drivers and a similar GUI, however now the card can hold up to 10 SRAM based save file. There however is no current way to dump one save, like you could before, you would just dump all 10 slots. You can download the new menu system below and read about Mottzilla's greatness lol. Cool guy. http://thegaminguniverse.org/ninjagaiden4/mottzilla/ Price: $40 USD Purchase: http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/usb-64m-smart-card RE: EMS 64m Smart Card - Flavor - 07-13-2013 Nice! I wrote some software for EMS carts many years back. I think it's obsolete now, though. Just for fun: http://www.personal.triticom.com/~erm/GameBoy/ RE: EMS 64m Smart Card - Morden - 07-18-2013 The EMS cartridge is probably the cheapest currently available option for GB Mono and GBC. It used to be possible to order it from EMS directly, for cheap, but once GameBoy music and LSDJ became a thing, stores like Kitsch-Bent bought up most of the stock. Same goes for replacement GameBoy Color and GBA cases from DealExtreme, which sold for $4, including free worldwide shipping. Kitsch-Bent had them for $10 + shipping. Anyway, one major flaw of the EMS cartridge is that while it's 64Mbit in total, the memory is split into two 32Mbit banks, so anything above the 32Mbit simply won't fit. There's also the MBC mapper issue. Still, there are few alternatives out there, and those non-EMS cartridges are too expensive for what they offer. There was one developed in China, or wherever, about two years ago, but after releasing a limited run with insane shipping delays, they shut the production down and I wasn't able to get my hands on one. RE: EMS 64m Smart Card - Flavor - 07-19-2013 I hadn't kept up with this thread, but there was someone working on a new menu for this cart based on my old EMS source. http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9456 and I think the download is here http://thegaminguniverse.org/ninjagaiden4/mottzilla/smartcard.html RE: EMS 64m Smart Card - Morden - 07-19-2013 Flavor Wrote:I hadn't kept up with this thread, but there was someone working on a new menu for this cart based on my old EMS source. It's the same firmware wyndcrosser mentioned in his first post. It's new to me, so as soon as I dig up my EMS cartridge, I'll test it out. The multiple save feature alone is interesting enough, and you get compatibility warnings as well. I've never seen any EMS compatibility charts, and I own a few games that wouldn't boot on the cartridge so I'm curious if I'll get the warning when I boot them using the new firmware. Changing the topic a bit, is there anything happening on the WonderSwan front? I'm just curious, of course. If it takes the next three years, that's fine, too. EDIT - I tested it out just now, and it works fine, though Solomon for GBC still doesn't work, and it doesn't give a compatibility error, either. MottZilla mentioned, that GBC support was preliminary, and it would seem that compatibility detection is supported for GB Mono games only. Too bad there's no contact info on MottZilla's page. I might try contacting him through the forum, though, to report GBC games that I know aren't compatible with the EMS cartridge. Sorry about my hastiness with that post. Oh well. Thanks for posting it first. |
