Flicking the on button and select works fine for exiting nes games. But it doesn't work in snes. Any idea why?

I have found this to be the case, because some emulators don't actually use the hotkey functionality. The emulators that start with "lr" wil, I believe. Do you know which emulator you were using?
In some non "lr" emulators, you may need to press START+SELECT to exit a game.
