my A button is not working.
I used solders headers. the A button never worked.

We have seen some people that got rubber pads that don’t work well, but that would normally manifest as both A and B not working well.
If only one button is having problems like that, I would suspect that there would be a problem with the connection between the Pi and the Freeplay Zero board. The other issue could be if there is some kind of dirt or oil on the button contacts of the Freeplay Zero (Where the button would press down).
Maybe you could post or email a photograph of the solder area of the Pi. We can maybe look at the points associated with the A button.

First, try to made sure that the pad is clean and there are no noticeable spots on the pad. You can use isopropyl, nail polish remove or something similar.
Does the "A" button work by using a tweezers or some conduction on the "A" pads. If the button does work that way then I would suggest cutting out some aluminum and super glueing it on the bottom of the silicon pad.

The other "easy" test (to do what a-butta is suggesting) is with the circuit board out (like in the photos), you can boot it up. Just ONLY with the rubber pad, try the A and B. If the A isn't working, spin the rubber pad around 180-degrees (so it swaps the rubber of A and B). See if the problem follows the rubber or not.
You can also (fairly easily) use the START/SELECT rubber on top of the A or B pad.
What we really need to figure out is if the problem is in the rubber or if it's in the circuitry.

Its not the rubber pads I tried all the rubber pad I also cleaned it with alcohol still didn't work I will try the aluminum foil

How are you testing the “A” button to see if it works? Are you testing it in a game or are you testing It in the controller setup that you can’t see the button register?

So I did like you said I took the circuit board out test all the silicone pads with A button. I also use the tweezers with some aluminum foil I tried with game also but unfortunately no response with A button.

Thank you for doing all that extra testing.
So then it is most likely the connection between the Pi and the Freeplay PCB. Usually we would then ask somebody to go back and touch up the solder. I think that this is the first time that somebody has had this sort of issue with a hammer header.
I am going to email you, and I will also talk this over with Andrew. We will try to figure out what needs to be replaced or if there are any further tests we can have you do to help us figure that out. With the holiday weekend, I would think that maybe we can’t get any sort of solid plan until Monday, and then we can agree on how to get this fixed for you.
