Black/Red FPZ and 3D Printed Cartridge Blank - CaptNumbNutz - 11-27-2017 I haven't seen a black and red FPZ or CM3 build yet, so I thought I would share in case anyone was curious how the colors looked. I backed the Kickstarter, but the shell and buttons were from Retromodding.com. I am currently using a Raspberry Pi Zero W. I have done the following mods to mine: -Magnetic Micro USB Charging Cable. I find these indispensable for all my electronics. I have 2 cats, and they are both lovable butt heads. They love nothing more than tugging on cables and knocking things off tables. All it took was 1 broken charge port on a previous phone and I converted everything to these handy cables. -Heatsink. I like to take the "better safe than sorry" approach to the heat. I'm also considering overclocking the Zero. I posted about this heatsink before. Fortunately, I had a 14mm x 14mm x 5mm heatsink handy. It is the same size as the one that Ed Mandy sells on the Freeplaytech.com website. His says its 6mm, but it has thicker thermal tape on it than mine. -3D printed Cartridge Blank with ventilation holes. It slides in and snaps into place one end at a time. It covers all the extra ports that I will rarely use while providing a small bit of protection from small objects falling into the slot. It took me about 10 minutes to draw up in TinkerCAD and I exported it to my 3D printer. After a couple prototypes to adjust the clips, I finalized the design. It takes approximately 30 minutes to print. If there is enough interest, I will post the .stl file of the Cartridge Blank to Thingiverse for people to download and print themselves. I apologize for my dirty fingers in the pics. I took these pics immediately after assembly. Heatsink Mounting: Finished Build: 3D Printed Cartridge Blank/Port Cover: RE: Black/Red FPZ and 3D Printed Cartridge Blank - Flavor - 11-28-2017 Ahh, that's great. I really like the 3D printed cartridge with ventilation (and charging LED) holes! If you could post that on Thingiverse, I'm sure I'm not the only one that would appreciate it. Thanks for sharing! I'm curious, how easy is it to remove externally, for access to the usb and HDMI if needed? RE: Black/Red FPZ and 3D Printed Cartridge Blank - spideyk21 - 12-13-2017 CaptNumbNutz, your build turned out awesome. I am also interested in the 3d printed cartridge cover, more specifically the clips. I am currently working on my own cartridge cover with integrated micro usb power connection. Trying to avoid having the kids damage the main pcb when charging the unit. RE: Black/Red FPZ and 3D Printed Cartridge Blank - maddin1502 - 01-08-2018 Please post the .stl file of the Cartridge Blank to Thingiverse... I need that cover, can't find it somewhere else RE: Black/Red FPZ and 3D Printed Cartridge Blank - CaptNumbNutz - 01-10-2018 Sorry I disappeared for a while guys. I've been very busy and I just recently got married. I will have an STL file for you guys soon. I had to edit the clips, they will look slightly different than the ones in the original pic. On the original design, I popped in the side with the bigger clip first, then rotated the other side down and it just snapped in. I then reverse the process with my fingernail by prying up the side with the smaller clip. It holds while still requiring very little force to remove again. The plastic its printed in just barely flexes enough. RE: Black/Red FPZ and 3D Printed Cartridge Blank - CaptNumbNutz - 01-10-2018 The STL file and instructions for the 3D printed cartridge blank can be found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2752302 RE: Black/Red FPZ and 3D Printed Cartridge Blank - Flavor - 01-11-2018 Thank you VERY much for posting that, CaptNumbNutz! RE: Black/Red FPZ and 3D Printed Cartridge Blank - Flavor - 01-21-2018 If he doesn’t, you could try http://Shapeways.com or call some local libraries and maker spaces to see if they 3D print. |
