Changing settings didn't stick - Urre5 - 11-06-2018
Figured I'd write about this even though it's not an issue for me anymore as it might be for someone else. For whatever reason I wasn't able to change the default password, or the keyboard layout on a fresh install of the Freeplay Zero image. At first I thought it was a hardware issue with the SD card I was using, but I had the same problem on a different card so I got suspicious, and figured I'd try and update the system using the Retropie menu, and indeed that helped for some reason. It did result in me needing to reinstall the Freeplay joystick driver, but that was easy enough. Hope this helps someone!
