Freeplay CM3 Slim with shoulder button upgrades - Hipcat - 02-07-2019

This is my Freeplay CM3 Slim with upgraded shoulder buttons. I’m thinking of it as a version 1; I have some more possible upgrades in mind Smile

Very impressive Wink

I think I miss this part in the video, what is the battery capacity?

Thank you. Oh right, I forgot to mention it’s still the 2,000mah good fit battery. It is pressed right up against the back of the screen with a little kapton tape as a barrier between. Maybe not necessary but I use kapton tape when I’m doubt Smile

Ok, I also like the way you have "merge" L and R buttons, this is a realy smart way to do so Smile

I agree.  It may not be easy for everyone to build this way, but I think it's quite ingenious!

One though that I had was that you could maybe use the same L2/R2 buttons that come with the add-on board.  Maybe you'd need them to be a little longer?  Anyway, then you could use the button caps that we use with those and with the clicky X/Y buttons.  They're slightly smaller diameter than the ones you used, so it could be easier (maybe).

Yeah that sounds good. These were a little finicky to get positioned exactly right. Regular tact switches would be easier. Plus the hole could be smaller like you said. If I to this on another build I may try that way.

I am looking to make another build with PS Vita joystick using some of you ideas : Start and Select buttons under the screen and the L/R button merged.

Think about this I have come to a little idea : Why not integrate L2/R2 switch directly into L1/R1 plastic part, if the switch have the same hardness than L1/R1 switch, you will be able to click L2/R2 switch without pushing L1/R1 switch. Theses switches could be connected using silicone wire to avoid stress.

I thought about that, but I didn’t know if it would work. I had thought it would be difficult to keep the buttons separate. It may work though. In my new build I am using Nintendo Switch Joy Con analogs and am going to try using regular click tact switches for L2/R2. I will mount them to the board in the same way I did on this build though. You should post your results if you try to mount them in the shoulder button. I’m curious to see if that works well.

No problems Wink
The hard part is to get "soft" switch, I will take a look on eBay or Aliexpress tomorrow.
