SQRXZ on NGPC
#1
Hi,

Attached, a small preview of my current project.

It's just the first step, showing the levels tileset using the level display code (up/left/down/right to scroll).

Next step: adding player and other sprites and do the game engine, mostly port the orginal one (www.sqrxz.de)

Don't expect the game in the near future...

Thor

Thx,
Sprites are from SQRXZ 3, maybe I'll have more tilesets (from version 1 and 2)
For the moment, I'm creating the technical framework to get the game working with no frameskip: I've got more than 1200 tiles for the gfx when only 512 can be displayed, so I've done a Just In Time Tiling...

Here is the current version : https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5579480/SQRXZ.ngp
showing a sample level with some sprites (you can scroll, but sprites don't move yet)

I'll update the file asap.

This is shaping up to be the best homebrew production ever to grace the Neo Geo Pocket. Everything looks great so far, it's lightning-fast and you've made great progress in such a short amount of time. I'm totally excited and can't wait until it's finished!

Back in the day, this could have easily been released as a commercial game. In fact, so many homebrew games are getting physical releases [Watermelon's MegaDrive stuff, Superfighter's Nightmare Busters for the SNES, a couple of MegaDrive games and Zaku for Atari's Lynx, Another World for the Jaguar, etc.], I really wish this one did as well.

Awesome work, Thor! Stay motivated and make this one shine!

The best homebrew on ngpc? not really, for the moment I think that my bomberman remake is still better Smile

(Maybe I should be more modest and humble...)
