I received a Neo Geo X today.
It's really not a good design.

- usb arcade controler : the neoGeo arcade stick looks cheap and is cheap. It misses many button or directions input (madcatz SE arcade stick is far better). The stick is working under windows. Madcatz stick don't work with neo geo x.

- TV mode : the screen is cropped to fit in 16/9 (in most games, credit and highscore are cut in halves) but screen ratio is close to the arcade one. No video filter available, no scanline simulation or anything like that, only double pixel. Nearly all emulator are better at high resolution output (high is 720*480).

- Handheld stick : It's certainly not the same as the ngpc one. It's bigger, with a greater course range and the 'click' opposes more resistance and makes more sound (it's annoying, but overall, the controller isn't that bad, certainly not as good as the ngpc one, but better than the 3ds one, as it's not really hard to do Haow-ken move in Art of Fighting)

- Handheld screen : well... no major tearing issue, but aspect ratio is bad, the screen is wider than it should be. not the biggest issue of the product.

On the instruction manual, it's mentioned that you must only use the docking station to charge it. Nice to see that they understand what a handheld is. Moreover for a 3-4 hours only battery lifespan.

overall, it's not a great product. the handeld itself seems ok, the arcade stick and docking station are not really good.

I don't know if they'll sell other games and at what price in the future.

Well, Loïc, that's disappointing. I had hopes that, at least, the handheld stick would be of NGPC quality. I had heard other reports that the arcade stick was nice, but I wasn't sure if they were trustworthy sources or more marketing trying to generate sales.

Well, the handheld stick is one of the best feature of this product. though not as good as the NGPC one
but the arcade stick is certainly not good. It's easier to play metal slug with the handheld stick than with the arcade one.
I'll take some time to compare with MAME madcatz SE (with seimitsu buttons/stick) vs NeoGeoX stick

I read that it's easily hackable and saw some pictures showing an internal MicroSD, which contains all the system stuff, that's actually glued into place. The person who took the photos managed to wiggle it loose, though. It was on the Neo Geo forums. By the look of it, there's not much that would keep people from putting their own ROM images on the thing.

I always thought it was a bit too expensive, so I didn't even consider getting one. I wonder if a price drop is a possibility if the units aren't selling well enough.

Anyway, it's too late to wish you all a merry Christmas, but it's not too late to wish you all the best in the upcoming 2013! Fingers crossed for tons of progress on the WonderSwan project!

As we can all tell its now $199 for the gold bundle and less for the system

Hacking it is a thread at the main neo geo forum. It has not been so easy to hack it yet. The first version that came out did have a micro sd on the inside all the current versions DO NOT and you cannot modify internal files yet. For all models we are just figuring out what to do with the external sd. As it turns out they changed the wiring of the sd card so we could not see the contents. I am also Ozfer on the neo geo forums . Also if you have the sd version you can only replace the stock roms with roms of a smaller size and you can replace the bios with unibios. The blood and stuff I heard can be turned on without it by holding down all 4 buttons at once on the system. Also one guy got dingux? booting on the neo geo x so far.
