Densetsu no Orge Battle - English Translation
#11
Can't say I have much in the way of skill-set to be of any use. That said, if there is anything I can do to help with the project, I would be very interested.

As in Japanese to English? I can certainly handle some. Looking for help translating the story text, or what?

Awesome, glad to see someone else taking this up. Per the other thread, I got to the point where I had most item, ability and class names converted. There is a decent FAQ on gamefaqs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/ngpc/197773-dens...faqs/60281) with those translations.

The biggest hurdle is text spacing. I haven't been able to figure out how to replace the text output code yet. I will take another look given what judge posted in the other thread. One graphics hack that I tried was replacing each character in the graphics with common 2 letter combinations, but that got ugly: there's just not enough room to contain everything.

Edit:

Here are some screenshots of what I mean. I ended up not liking the way I did things here. What's really needed is a code modification to change where it pulls the text from.

This is still good. I think the text output routines are the hardest part of Japanese->English ROM hacking.

It's just not straightforward how to properly fit long strings of letters into the same space as one Japanese symbol. If you are modifying game source code, it's a much easier problem to solve. Hacking the machine code is a different beast.

Good work, though. I assume you guys are learning a lot wile hacking away on this stuff. It's really nice to see that you guys are still progressing on this game. It needs a translation.

Awesome progress! I'm a big fan of Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre and as Flavor says, this game deserves a translation. Keep at it and good luck.

I've done the characters (pointer hacking), spells, actions etc. but I'm not exactly doing what Thorton is doing with the "combo lettering".
