Image Questions

Man, it's Friday night, and people must be receiving/building their Freeplay Zero.  I've had a few different people asking questions in the last hour or so.

Yeah, I got in after my double last night stoked because I got a package from you and I had the day off today! Had to stop midway but just finished it not to long ago.

Just got my kit yesterday, put it together today, once I get the custom glass for it I’ll post up a pic. 

Did you contact me about the glass yesterday? I'm pretty sure we checked/doublechecked the ones we shipped out this week. It's possible that we could have missed one, but all the Kickstarter orders should have had glass included. Is there any chance it was tucked inside a paper or anything weird like that?

No, I got my ks glass, I was referring to custom colored glass I ordered.

There is a GPA one, but the Freeplay Zero one should work well.

I just don’t know which image to use. The latest one even if it’s configured formCM3 or the latest one with Freeplay Zero in the title?

Yeah, I can understand why this is confusing. The Freeplay CM3 image is optimized for the Pi 2, Pi 3, and CM3. It has software compiled specifically for those CPUs. It won't work on the Pi Zero (Freeplay Zero).

Where it gets more confusing is that the Pi Zero image will actually run on the CM3. It just isn't optimized. It's kinda like the CM3 is backwards compatible.

Anyway, the answer is:
If you're on a Freeplay CM3, use the CM3 image (but the Zero image will technically work).
If you're on a Freeplay Zero, use the Zero image.

By the way, RetroPie does the same thing, but they call the images "0/1" and "2/3" for which Pi they run on.

I’m having a hard time setting up my WiFi, read the read me file but still seems unclear. I’m running a Mac without access to a HDMI monitor to connect the Pi to.

If you're setting up WiFi, I will assume that you are using a Raspberry Pi Zero W.

There are 3 main ways to do this.
1) If you have a USB keyboard, it's probably easiest to use the "RetroPie" menu and select WiFi. You can go through the menu with the controller or the Keyboard. Once you select a network, you will need the keyboard to enter the password.
2) Put your SD card into your Mac. You will notice a drive called "boot." In there, add a file called wpa_supplicant.conf

(note that I didn't need the "ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev" stuff when I did it before)
RetroPie should grab/use that file on the next boot.

I don't see wpa_supplicant.conf but I'm downloading the new image, and gonna read those links tonight as I go to bed. I guess I'll have to show off Sunday instead of tomorrow...I ran out of time

I think it's current, unless they released something new in the last couple weeks that I missed. We have been pretty swamped recently, though. I could have missed that.

Is it pretty easy/straight forward to add a custom splash and menu theme with my setup?

I prefer the USB Stick method. I also have used the SFTP method wit FileZilla. I think that the image we provide has the Samba method turned off, because it takes extra time to boot the machine with that turned on.

I should have gotten that microUSB-to USB then... I might have a cable like that floating around. i'll look.
