Recalbox

Also, I have noticed a couple things about this SD image. I can try to "fix" these things and release a new image.

1) The language is set to German. This is obviously not a problem for anyone that can read it, but I think that the default is ENGLISH, so I would change it.
2) Kodi Media Center doesn't work with the fbcp (LCD) driver. There's a workaround for this. You just kill fbcp, launch kodi, sleep a little, and then restart fbcp. The user won't even notice. It still loads kodi during the sleep.
See https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2709135

In the meantime, if you can't read German, here's the steps to change it.

- After bootup, hit START.
- Choose the second option from the top.
- On the last item, change the setting from DEUTSCH to ENGLISH.
- Go to the button under the last option (CLOSE), and hit A.
- Reboot (it will probably ask you if you want to shut down anyway)

UPDATE: I have made those 2 edits to my SD card. One problem that remains is shutting Kodi down. For some reason, if you exit Kodi, it doesn't fully exit. If you are ssh'd in, you can kill the process and it will return to EmulationStation. If you can't do that, the machine is basically useless. For instances like this, you will probably want the shutdown_daemon.py from https://github.com/TheFlav/Freeplay-Support to allow you to hold the PWR button to shut the system down. See https://github.com/TheFlav/Freeplay-Supp...install.sh to see how/where it gets installed.

I am uploading the new SD image to https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folde...uf9H5v7xfw

It still needs the PWR button functionality, and I don't really know what's wrong with exiting Kodi. I also don't know how exiting Kodi would act on a regular RPi with unmodified Recalbox.

Main difference between Retropie and Recalbox are that Retropie is a package that run under Linux, Recalbox is a system. So some CPU intensive games run smoother on Recalbox because one layer less.  Concerning german, I am not intended to make a fork here, just look for  adaptions to apply on any release from Recalbox. In our corner german and french are most used languages, and like I make some modifications on the interface, I must be sure that special characters works. Not all fonts are working. Concerning Kodi, you can just disable it in the ES menu, I dont see reason to make a walkman from a 320x240 display and heavyweight. But the guilty is Kodi that dont respect resolution other than its own. And dont switch even back to the origins when it is leaved.

Any update on this Dragu?  Have you gotten Recalbox up and running well?  If so, have you noticed better performance compared to retropie?  Any issues?

I build a Bartop and a Nespi version of Recalbox with PI3B, so here it is more for the gadget side... . PI3B and CM3 have same speed processor, so easy to try Recalbox for everybody. I dont follow this intensively, will make some further adaptions in the time. Anyway I dont use Kodi, I have been told that earlier versions should work better with LCD screens. The version of Recalbox that I use is based on Kernel parts 4.4. So, display and keys are working with the version that I posted. But stilll to recompile in 4.4 Ed's mk_arcade_.. to be able to use the power button hotkey, that I dont want to use as hotkey because in Recalbox no need, but for the brightness controller. But is summer, wood and beds are burning . .

ed ive tried installing your image but i cant get it to boot on my freeplay zero, (rpi zero w )
are these recalbox images not meant for the zero ?

if so how do i get it to boot ?
ive installed your image (and also tried the dragu one) using etcher to write to my sd card (same way ive used for all previous images) so i dont know where ime going wrong as neither image seems to work,

I think I only tested on the Freeplay CM3. It might take a bit more work to get it up and running on the Pi Zero. I just did some small edits to Dragu's work, and I assume his was based on the Pi 3 image (see https://archive.recalbox.com/).

With anytime soon, you may be right. I will try in some free time to still improve the existing version and the final issue should be a bundle of drivers to integrate in a standard Recalbox version to make it run on Freeplaytech. As Realbox and Retropie are based on different Kernels, necessary to recompile most of them. I dont want to do parallel developement on Recalbox, anyway the version of Recalbox that I use for the moment is not maintenanced anymore. But it was pretty stable, so my choice.
