Roadmap

I'm just curious what are current priorities for FPZ developers? What I know is that all Kickstarter rewards have been finally shipped and one more batch of CM3 units is in production. Is there something else going to happen?

One thing we're working on is an idea for an add-on for the Freeplay CM3. We're not yet sure what features will be on it, but we're testing some ideas. One might be a backlight control. Another is extra buttons.

We have another similar/related project that we haven't announced, because we don't yet know how it will work out. Depending on how things go, that could work out to be another Kickstarter to raise some funds to manufacture parts of it.

We have another (also similar/related) project that we've had on our project TODO list, but it takes a lot of time and effort to move forward, and we're very busy with Freeplay Zero/CM3 stuff still. Well, that's true for all of our projects, I guess. Big Grin

Do you have some suggestions? We're open to ideas, but keep it more like a brainstorming session. Don't be offended if we don't do anything with any particular idea.

Maybe in a future revision of the CM3 board, you could use a USB C charge port instead of micro USB. Just for the fact of being easier to mod the gameboy shell.

Also I would like to see you make an all in one board for the original gameboy DMG, Like that by kite on sudomod. Which also uses the CM3

Cheers

We have considered making a CM3 version for the DMG. That could maybe still happen at some point. What sort of features would you like to see on such a board?

Have you guys considered a custom plastic shell? Maybe similar to the GBA form factor but with the added buttons and without the need to trim the case so much?

We sure have, Andrewe1! We can say that we're working on it, but our main expertise is in the electronics. Thanks to the success of the projects so far, we're quite busy and stuff like 3D design (which isn't our top skill) goes a bit slowly.

We actually just 3D printed something last week that could lead up to having a working design, but it is still a ways away from usable.

I've been trying to model a (working) cover for the cartridge.  No luck yet.  I've also printed the one on thingiverse, but the fit is off.

I printed a few exactly like that in PLA and ABS. It actually looks like the same model was used.

It won't latch due to the mini HDMI port on the Zero being in the way (and I think the Zero itself, been a few weeks).  My attempts to mod the cover with a file just weakened it and broke quickly there after.

The models I used were:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2756870

Neither had a good fit for the Zero.

I'll be trying this new one soon: https://makerware.thingiverse.com/thing:2794554  I'll report back and let you know how it goes.

I would like to see some sort or hardware switch to turn off the device, especially when the system completely locks up. The built in safe shut down script doesn't work when this happens. Several attempts to add optional emulators has not been working for me, the wifi dongle option has been hit and miss. It seems to time out, then I'm stuck pulling the batteries out. I'm using a Dlink DWA-131

Also could we add, Bluetooth/wifi onboard - I'm thinking something like the way you add Emmc modules?
