Non destructible x/y button removal

Hello all, I’ve built a Freeplay Zero, with all buttons - but thinking about building another one without the X and Y buttons (so, a standard GBA layout - no extra buttons). Is there a way to remove the buttons from the FPZero in a non-destructible manner? Or should I just snip them off forever.

Snip forever is the easiest.

If you wanted to desolder and remove the small sub-PCB, that would allow you to add it again later.
