Accelerometer Addon?
#1
Hi guys,
I’m new around here. Im just waiting for my CM3 kit to arrive, and sort of brainstorming about upgrade ideas. I’m interested in adding additional modules in the empty space that will be left inside my shell, and I wonder if anybody has ever considered adding an accelerometer board. Something cheap like this unit from Adafruit:

I can’t think of any native gameplay functions for this, but it might be an easy way to add gesture support, so that you don’t need physical buttons or hotkeys. For example, you could shake your console to exit the emulator or something. What’s do you guys think? Complete madness, or am I onto something?

Hi,
So far, there is no support for this kind of feature in the driver used on Freeplay images.

A possible way to look at should be to use a combination of scripts and xboxdrv driver to mix multiple inputs but this would be a pain to integrate :/

I am kind of curious to know if someone have a working way to do this.

Does xboxdrv handle all of the button input for the OS? Maybe there are other projects out there for handling accelerometer input in xboxdrv? I’ll do some research on this.

Quote:xboxdrv provides a wide varity of configuration options, it allows you to simulate keyboard and mouse events, remap buttons and axes, apply autofire, invert axis, tweak axis sensitivity, emulate throttle and rudder controls and send macros.

I think this is a good starting point.

No real idea for accelerator input in xboxdrv but I am pretty someone already did this kind of thinks into a project, mainly thinking about Wii controller on this.

Just FYI, this is something that we are currently looking into. I do not mean that we're specifically looking at the accelerometer. I mean that we're looking into this notion of more options for add-on boards. There currently exists our L2R2/Analog add-on board (https://www.freeplaytech.com/product/fre...-on-board/) but we would like to extend that idea to a more encompassing set of add-ons, if we can get the idea to work.

I would love to see a module (or combination of modules) which add things like an accelerometer, WiFi / Bluetooth interface, or rumble motor. My skill level is just about sufficient to solder a single USB device onto the board, but that’s about the extent of what I can do, hardware-wise. I think that the most “bang for your buck” modules would be ones which are internal and require no finicky shell modification. I’d definitely buy something like that

For people who are completely unfamiliar with soldering, it might be best to just offer a new revision of the CM3 board, or a “sequel” with such features already included.

I think the real problem is not to integrate new modules/features, with time, hardware and software part can be done.

The big deal is to keep compatibility between most/all setup and to keep it user friendly.

With a bit of work you can fit pretty much anything you want in a addon board but this board will not be usable by Zero or Boxy Pixel users.
