New L2 R2 board
#1
Good morning,
I recently purchased the new L2 R2 board, offered by FreePlayTech. It didn't come with any instructions unfortunately. I wanted to see if the community had any instructions on wiring these guys in?

Thanks and have a great one!

Hey krayvyn,

I think you emailed me, and I haven't got to my emails quite yet. Anyway, we actually do have an instruction document for it. It's new, so let us know if there's anything that needs more explanation or more detailed photos or whatever.

We try to keep that sort of stuff at https://www.freeplaytech.com/build/

I only just ordered one so it might turn out to be more clear once it arrives, but after looking through the guide just now it seems like it would be helpful to have a higher resolution image of the board with solder points circled.

Recommendations for how to drill the L1/R1 buttons would be helpful too, though not as critical.

Either way thanks for making this, I'm looking forward to setting it up!

I'll just post my question here instead of opening a new thread:

I was wondering if there is a way to add L3 and R3 on the board (coming from a joy con button press)? I thoroughly checked the pcb board and add-on board but I'm not sure.

Sure. You should be able to add them to any available GPIO. On the Freeplay CM3, if you remove the Pi Compute Module, you may notice some small circles labeled 35, 36, 37, 38, and 39. These can be used for multiple things, but they should be find for buttons. You would want to solder one leg of a button to the pad and the other leg to GND.

After soldering them, you'd need to change the /etc/modprobe.d/mk_arcade_joystick.conf to add the buttons. Just pick one that's currently set to -1 and change it to whatever you soldered to (like change ,-1, to ,35,).

I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you need more info.
