PocketSend - Transferring data over 8mb
#1
Question
Hi all, good evening!

Recently, My old virtual machine with Windows 98, when I use it with my PocketLinker, for any reason that I don't know, the system colapse and freeze my computer.

I use a VM beacause my mother board doesn't has parallel port and the I/ODrivers for PocketLinker and the software (PocketSend and NGPC_Win) doesn't work on actuals operative systems. To solve this problem, I bought a pci card wih parallel port and use this virtual machine. As I say, for any reason that  I don't know, my pc doens't work with all this right now.

To solve it, I restored and old laptop with Windows XP to use the PocketLinker on it. Usually, for transfer big roms I use NGPC_Win because at the 50% of the rom transfer, PocketSend stopts. So, I was using NGPC_Win to transfer high size roms (upper to 16mb).

Now, when I go to use NGPC_Win in the laptop, the app throw an exception saying that "privileged instruction" (I search info about this error and It's something when any software try to access to an I/O device) (my user is administrator) and can't use it. In addition, I'm not able to transfer big roms whit PocketSend.

In the old PocketSend page, from the version 2.0 says that supports ROMs of any size up to 8Mbit

I need help because I need transfer high size roms to the cart, so, someone has any idea? The problem is the operative system?

Thanks!

What is the exact file size of the ROM that stops at 50%?  Do you have a 32Mbit cart (or just a 16Mbit)?

Maybe search some posts like this one: http://www.reddit.com/r/Gameboy/comments...hanger_on/
The stuff about LOADRV is what I recall would help with the privileged instruction problem.

Do you happen to have a Neo Linkmasta (like the photo below), by any chance?  We don't make them anymore, but if you do, I think it should be able to program a Bung cartridge.

In this case, the size of the rom it's 16mb

One doubt. I seen in your site that you have stock (7 in stock) of your flashmasta, it's true? Maybe I bought one a throw this PocketLinker to the toilet

Well, we do have the Flash Masta cartridges in stock, but we no longer make that Linkmasta.  I wouldn't get rid of it, if you want to still use your Bung (AKA Mr. Flash) cartridges.

You say that your file is 16mb.  Do you mean that it's 16megabits?  That would be 2megabytes on your computer.

What size is your cartridge?  Some are 16M.  Some are 32M.  (See photos below.)

I don't know why that would stop halfway.  Does the game work at all after that?

Are you using the "Menu -> Cart" button or the "File -> Cart" button?  I think you'd need "File -> Cart" for this.  PocketSend was meant to do a couple things.

1)  Compile a menu with some games, so you could have multiple games on the cart.
2)  Send a file to the cart.

If you have a single game that you want to send to the cart, you don't want a menu.  That will mess things up.

Also, just so you know, if you have a 32M cart, it will have 2 16M flash chips on it.  If you're sending a 32M file, PocketSend may be malfunctioning when switching to the 2nd chip (at 50%), or the flash chip itself could be malfunctioning.  If you have a single 16M file, I don't know why it'd have problems at 50%.  I feel like there's something else wrong here.  Maybe post some screenshots/video of the problem, if you can.

AND, if you didn't know, I developed PocketSend, but that was a LONG time ago.

Hi Flavor,

Sorry about me explanation. My game are 16Mb (it's a backup of Faselei!). I have the 32M cartridge. I solved re-installing Win98 instead of WinXp and using NGPC_Win instead of PocketSend to write data on the cartridge temporally.

I didn't know that the 32M cartrisge has 2 chips, so the freezing at the 50% has sense.

I know that you developed the software, thanks about that :-D I think record a video or something else but the proccess are simple, connect the PocketLinker via LPT, put the 32M flash cartridge, select File to Cart option, select the Faselei backup and start the process.

Something curious, when the proccess arrive at the 50%, in the 3th try that I did, I left him for a day to see what happened and the proccess advance to 53% (8h = 3% more), so I don't know if I don't know what will happen if I leave it running for more days
