WS Flash Masta v5.1

I got my flash masta v5.3 today i attempted to make a white one as you can see i was only about 80 % successful don't know how flavor does it so the letters came out hollow plus the battery pack is just as awesome surprisingly no reviews yet

Hello, I got a v5.3 card and I'm using it on a WSC + IPS mod. I noticed two issues:

- I have the EEPROM->SRAM patched Tetris ROM and it plays / saves fine, but I notice it sometimes boots up in B&W / WS version? Restarting seems to fix it
- Guilty Gear Petit 2 has some graphics corruption after a loss in surivial mode

I was just wondering if those are known issues or if there are workarounds, any planned fixes etc. Thanks!

Hey SirRockALot!

I can't recall offhand, but I feel like the Tetris thing switches to B&W if you're holding a button during bootup. It's weird. Maybe I can search for it later, but it might be easy for you to find. My recollection was that it was an odd side-effect of using the menu. Like, in the menu, you would have just hit the button to select the slot, and, if you held that button for too long, it would start in B&W mode. I hope my memory of that isn't totally wrong. I don't recall about Guilty Gear Petit 2. My notes don't say anything about it having problems, but those notes aren't exhaustive.

You're right about Tetris, it seems I can avoid the issue by just tapping the button as quickly as possible. I don't really know that much about the WonderSwan, on the GBC you can change palette during boot with button combinations, guess they allow you to fall back to the WS non-color version this way, interesting.

GGP2 seems to have either graphics corruption or outright crashes after a loss in survival mode. So far it has happened every time. Before that the game plays just fine. I'm using the unmodified ROM from the Hardware Target Game Database formerly known as EverDrive Pack collection.

So, we're working on a new menu. Well, we're actually working on a new compiler which will then be used for a new menu. This new menu would likely be changed so that it would fix this Tetris side-effect.

As for the GGP2, I honestly don't know. I wonder if that game used a different MBC ("Bandai") chip or some special feature somehow. Have you tried this game on an emulator? Is there any chance it does the same there?

Sorry, I have actually never played this on anything but the FlashMasta, but I doubt the game crashes when you game over in survival mode. It seems to either have glitched visuals or also freezes on top of that.

I have to admit I might not be the most reliable source of information on glitches since I only own a few original games and mostly know the WSC from emulation. I've been playing a lot of Judgment Silversword on the FlashMasta and I notice that during/right after the boss explosions I sometimes see brief flashes of glitched graphics, looking like a corrupted tilemap. I don't recall ever seeing that on many hours of emulator play. But I don't know what happens on the real game cartridge and I know the emulators are not necessarily accurate and seem to be doing things like hiding sprite flicker etc. It's not a big deal either way, but I couldn't report it as a bug since I flat out don't know what the real game actually looks like :/

For what it's worth, GGP2 seems to work fine on emulation but pretty reliably freezes on my FlashMasta.

Could something like this be fixed with a software update? I assume the AVR and the FPGA can have their firmware/bitstream updated, but I don't think there has been any updates for the actual FlashMasta cartridge so far?

My setup is WS color with Ips mod. I loaded Hanafuda Shiyouyo on the flashmasta. The game starts, but some of the graphic layers are swapped and offset. I was wondering if this had to do with the IPS similar to how Fire Lancer behaves? or something else is causing it?

yes valid - in case of makaimura (the reason I even bought a wonderswan Big Grin ) I get wrong sprites and flickering... hope the further development will solve the issue and we get some updates in future.

I do not know if there are any timeline or real plans how we proceed forwards
