So I never owned a real Nintendo when I was a kid. Had a SNES clone as they never sold it here. But played all games back in the day. Currently, I have 2 switches, 2 3ds xl old, 2 3ds new, 2 3ds ll new, 4 new Mario game & watch. This is my Nintendo stock besides Xbox and a hoard of win xp, 98 builds, and of course new machines.

I have stock for retropie arcade build like the controllers, screens etc. Plan to build it when I have time, So I was not looking for a full system with xy buttons. But I ordered long clicky just in case, they came pre-soldered, thought they would be separate :-) so I desoldered them.

Ed was very kind and as my last shipment got lost, he offered me a generous discount and batteries, went a long way in building this. I used the retro6 cases. their cases are good but the people behind the project seemed professionally cold if you know what I mean. So, Thanks Ed!

I built 2 because I have 2 sons and when I die, they would have one each   :-D
so here are the 2 builds still figuring out GBA performance issues though. As I said, I wanted an original look, so just the native buttons and only GBA, NES, SNES, and Atari on there, don't care about others.

I am very pleased with how this turned out. The build was straightforward, and I found the plastic GBA shell rather easy to work with. I bought two just in case I made a mess of one, but that turned out to be unnecessary. I spent most of the weekend tweaking my retropie setup and, of course, playing lots of games!

Hot Tip:

RetroSix Housing:
As an inherently lazy human, I wanted to use the least amount of effort possible building this, whilst maintaining a quality build.
The housing used came from a new mould, with some sections already cut out (for a GBA IPS screen), making the cutting exercise easier.

IPS Screen Lens:
I opted for an IPS screen lens as the screen lens is just a fraction bigger, helping account for imperfections in the alignment of the screen.


P.S. Has anyone found a working solution or alternative for KODI on the FreePlay Zero?]]>

The dpad is basically just the stock one cut off and replaced with the wooden one, the buttons feet are just some epoxy molded and cut to fit the shell, and the triggers are just the hinge/spring cut glued to the wooden trigger. The buttons feel amazing but the trigger springs need some bending and believe it or not- the dpad plays terribly haha it feels nice though. Eventually I want to add a wriststrap for my clumsiness (I think that's what the hole on the back shell is for) and stain or patina to the  shoulder guards or something to give it some color. But it's going to look like this for a little while so I figured I share it

Edit: I don't know if I'm going with joysticks or not, probably 90% games I'd play won't need them. Maybe two smaller speakers in the front. Or just cap the holes with faux buttons.
