"IPS ready" GBA shell?
#1
Hi! I was wondering if anyone here has used one of these "IPS ready" shells for a Freeplay build.

I saw a setting in the display driver menu that seemed to take advantage of the full size of the screen. While I adore my Freeplay zero, I sure wouldn't mind a larger screen size!

Thanks in advance,

I do recall a guy using one of those shells.  I think he liked it, but I don't know where it was posted.  I'd guess it's somewhere in https://forum.freeplaytech.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=27

Now, if you wanted a larger screen size, you might just love the new Freeplay Zero that's coming out hopefully really soon.  It will use a new 640x480 IPS LCD and it'll be compatible with the Freeplay Zero 2 W.

I'm hoping that the circuit board will be ready in a week or two.  We're working on a new shell for that, too.  The kit will fit in the GBA-style shell (like it always did), but that won't give you the full 640x480 viewable area.  To show the full LCD, you'd need to use the new shell.  I'm hoping that's ready soon, too.

The shell shown here is a 3D printed prototype.

Oh dude that looks so cool! I am stoked for a new design, I can't wait to hear more news about it! Would you be willing to post the stl file for the shell as well? Or will you just be selling them?

The shell is being designed by another guy. I can't yet say how that sort of thing will work out.

The design looks rad!
Will it be possible to post or sell the 3D model for those who don't want a metal casing but want the new design? (Drilling the holes for the X&Y buttons was the most difficult part of the building process in my experience)
