First, try to made sure that the pad is clean and there are no noticeable spots on the pad. You can use isopropyl, nail polish remove or something similar.
Does the "A" button work by using a tweezers or some conduction on the "A" pads. If the button does work that way then I would suggest cutting out some aluminum and super glueing it on the bottom of the silicon pad.
