Otherwise, I think some hot glue would likely work fine.
You can do without it, but I think you'd want something to fill the hole.
I have a friend with a 3d printer, but he doesn't have any clear filament, so I could fill it with a solid colour but it wouldn't allow any light through which will not be great I assume.
I guess hot glue route.
