When you tested with your friend's Pi, did you just swap over the SD card into his Pi?

My friend and I were communicating over the internet so he had his own sd card.

Definitely let us know about the new Pi.  If you still have issues, maybe make an image of the SD and I can try it on a few Pi's here.

Unfortunately with the new Pi Zero that arrived today I still get the exact same stuttering. I don't think its an issue that you guys should worry yourselves about because I only tried stock retropie on my television. I do have a quick question. Does anyone know how I can change the audio sample rate? I cannot find it anywhere in the retroarch menus.

Sorry I can’t help with the sample rate at the moment. I’m just on my phone. I think it might be in that link that I mentioned earlier about performance tweaks.

Anyway, I actually think it could be really helpful if you could make an image of your SD and share it with me somehow. If you only had stock RetroPie, I wonder what else it could be. If you just put one ROM on it, Does it still have the same issue? Could it somehow be the controller or you are using? Is there any chance that it could be your monitor? That seems like a really weird idea though. What about your SD card? Could that be a really old/slow card or something? I actually don’t think that that should be the case for slowdown, I’m just trying to brainstorm.

Hey. I saw somewhere else that someone claimed that they encountered SNES stuttering when they used a power supply that was giving low voltage. They said that the low voltage caused the Pi to automatically adjust its clock rate to compensate

How are you powering the Pi?

Initially I used a class four SDCard and then I bought a uhs-1 (Class 10) and still had the same problem. But the SD Card shouldn't make a difference because these games fit into memory so there shouldnt be any swapping back and forth between memory and the sd card. The stutter happens on two of my televisions and also the actual Freeplay Zero itself. I tried different power supplies too and the Freeplay Zero on battery power. I bought the batteries from Retro Modding.

Finally I did find a solution that fixed my problem. I overclocked the GPU and memory to 500MHz. I did this by editing "/boot/config.txt" and adding these lines

gpu_freq=500
core_freq=500
sdram_freq=500

Damn it! I'm getting stuttering again!! Last night I overclock and tested the Freeplay Zero and got a constant 60fps on Sonic the Hedgehog for the Genesis. Now its going back to what was happening before today. Its varying from 58 to 60fps with stuttering. I'll dump my sd card to see if it helps, but I doubt it will. I literally download and reimaged my sd cards more than 5 times.

Well, I feel like you should make sure that the stuttering is happening on any specific game. Maybe just run the intro of SNES Mario World (not actually playing the game) and see if that stutters. Then rip your SD to an image file and send it to me somehow. Let me know what game/ROM it stutters on and where (like playing it or just the intro or whate). I will try it on some Pi I have and see if it happens to me. Maybe we can narrow it down.

FYI, I probably can't do this until Wed. Monday is a holiday and then I have a local event I need to attend on Tuesday.

Are you using a shader by any chance?

Not using any shaders. I know they can use up a lot of resources. I'm in the process of uploading my SD image so I'll send you that when it's done.

Another thing to note. I've used a Lakka 2.0 image(http://lakka.tv) and everything runs perfectly. Their 2.0 image currently uses retroarch 1.5 and Retropie uses 1.6. I tried switching the binaries but I get errors in retropie when I do this. Not sure what can cause the stuttering in Retropie.
