Trouble shooting

I would suggest trying RetroPie next, just to see if it works. Are you using Pi Zero or Pi Zero W? Which GPA image file did you use?

I would suspect that there is something wrong in the way that you put the GPA image you downloaded onto the SD card. Is there another tool you could try for imaging the card?

Do you have a guide on how to install all the images/files onto the SD card, I thinks that's what I'm having the most problems with.

I'm not sure what to say about it. I wonder if the program you are using doesn't unzip the file first. The one that I use will accept ZIP, IMG, GZ, etc. If yours doesn't unpack it, then it would just apply the compressed file to the SD card, and that won't work.

You could maybe try WIN32DISKIMAGER
Or you could just unpacked the file first and then try it again with Etcher.

So I got it up and running, but it still has the dim green light until it turns on then it's the bright green light, also it won't turn off when I hold the power button only when I unplug the batteries, and the hot keys don't work.

This is good news, DarkWind! I'm sorry that it took this long to get to this point.

Are you using the SD image we provided? I assume you are.

What do you mean by "won't turn off?" Does the software shut down and then the RPi just sits there? If you hold the PWR button for a while (10s?) does anything happen?

I will talk to Andrew (the Electrical Engineer that has done all the circuitboard layout), and see if he has an idea about this. To be honest, the new symptoms you describe are very odd.

Do you have anything plugged into any of the MicroUSB ports when you experience this?

What battery are you using? Can you show a photo of how they are hooked up?

Does everything else seem to work well?

If you remove the batteries and just power the board through MicroUSB (connected to our board), does it work differently?

What about if you connect power directly to the Raspberry Pi? In that case, you will bypass our power circuitry, and the Pi will never shut down fully. You can hold the PWR button, and the software will shutdown, but the power will not.

It's all good, my fault for not understanding the full process of how to install the image onto the pie, also I am using the newest image you have provided.

When I hold the power button for the recommended length of time and longer it does nothing. Anytime I remove the power source whether it's the batteries or plug from the wall it will shut off. I don't have anything else plugged into it when all of this is happening. I have tried connecting the power directly into the pie and into your board and all the results are the same.

Also I am unable to exit any game after I start it up, I've tried all sorts of different button combinations, so none of the hot keys seem to work for mine.

Also anytime I try to run any Japanese game like Rockman X2 for example I can only see the backgrounds and no characters/enemies but I can still move the character and what not.

I wonder if I messed up the board or the pie some how while trying to figure out why the image wasn't working, I may just need to purchase a new board and headers and start over again now that I know I'm doing.

Exiting most emulators requires the hotkey (which is the PWR button). If there is something wrong with the PWR button, then it could act just as you've mentioned.

The part that throws me off is the dim green light you mentioned. That seems very odd.

Here's another thing to try.

Plug in a battery (but no other power). What do you see? Is the LED on, off, dim?

Tap the PWR button. Does the LED come on or go dim?

Hold the PWR button. Does the LED come on after a bit and then the machine boots all the way up?

Once in the main menu, press the START button. Then go to QUIT. I think the's an option for SHUTDOWN SYSTEM (or something like that). If you choose that, what happens? Does the software shut down? Does the LED go off after a while? Does the LED go dim after a while?

I use the power button and tap select like the read me file states and I get nothing.

With battery plugged in everything is off, no dim green light either.

When I tap the power button the screen turns on and the dim green light appears.

When I hold the power button the screen turns on, the dim green light turns on and after 5 seconds the green light goes to a brighter green and the system boots up normally.

When I am in the main menu and shut it down within the menus it turns off like it is suppose to and the green light just goes away as soon as it is powered off.

The green light goes away completely, or it goes dim? Does the system shut down 100%? Can you then boot it back up?

Let me know, and then I think we're likely honing in on the problem!
